5^TH STATE CONFERENCE

• The 5^th state conference of TNEB Engineers’ Sangam was held at Kalaivanar Arangam, Chennai on 03.10.09. The morning programme started withhoisting of Sangam's flag by our president Er.G.MURALI KRISHNAN. The auditorium was named after the late veteran stalwart Er. S.DESHABANDU. The late engineer’s portrait was unveiled by our former general secretary Er. N.CHANDRASEKARAN and was garlanded by former office bearer Er.P.R.GOVINDARAJAN.

• The gathering was welcomed by the Secretary Chennai Region Er.V.S.SAMPATH KUMAR followed by an emotional presidential address by Er. G.MURALIKRISHNAN and an excellent address by the General Treasurer Er.REMINGTON.V.RAYAN. The highlight of the morning session was the programme next followed in which former veteran office bearers were honoured with an shawl and a memorabilia of the 5^th State Conference amidst a deafening applause from the gathering.

• Next it was the turn of the all the other Central Unit office bearers to address the gathering. The report and speech given by the General Secretary Er.V.ASHOK KUMAR was the icing on the cake which carried vivid memories of the Sangam's past, particularly its struggle, its achievements and the leaders behind it.

• The touching moment of the morning session was the address made by one of the newly recruited Technical Assistants Er. M.VINOTH KUMAR of ETPS. Eyes went moist when he narrated his family background, his Diploma career and entry into the Board. On behalf of the newly joined Technical Assistants he thanked the Sangam for its excellent work done for their recruitment and assured that his generation will involve themselves to achieve glory, not only for the Board but also for the Sangam. The individual was honoured by the gathering for his bold and touchy address.

• The morning session concluded with the address of our former veteran office bearers Er. N.CHANDRASEKARAN and Er. P.R.GOVINDARAJAN, who kept the gathering focused by narrating the past history and appreciating the flag bearers of the present generation.

• The first half of the afternoon session started with seminars taken by eminent personalities to educate the gathered members. Right To Information Act was well explained by Thiru RATHINAVEL PANDIAN of FACT/India and Energy Conservation and Storage was delivered by Er. SUNDAR of Sastra University / Tanjore. The gathering got much involved in this programme by raising doubts and needing explanations.

• The time arrived for which everyone had been waiting, the final session of the Conference to shower our gratitude to the Honourable Minister for Electricity. Euphoria ran high as the Chief Guest of the hour the Honourable Minister for Electricity Thiru Arcot N. VEERASAMY entered the dais and was welcomed to a thunderous applause. The auditorium which was fully packed till then, was jam packed as the members occupied each and every small space available. The function started exactly at 5 pm with Tamil Thai Valthu followed by welcome address by the State President.

• The gathering was made spell bound when the General Treasurer and General Secretary paid glorious tributes to the Tamil Nadu Government, in particular to the Honourable Chief Minister, Honourable Deputy Chief Minister, and Honourable Minister for Electricity, and the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board, for ordering the recruitment of 1100 Technical Assistants for which Sangam had toiled hard for almost a decade.

• Not only were those, our conference demands also placed before the Honourable Electricity Minister for kind consideration. Each and every demand was well backed up with the required information and its essentiality for implementation to improve the functioning of the Board. The following demands were placed before the Honourable Minister for Electricity.

• DEMANDS

• 1. Early settlement of Wage revision for TNEB employees with effect from 01.12.2006.

• 2. Fixing of Technical Assistants scale in TNEB on par with the Technical Assistants scale in the Govt. of Tamilnadu.

• 3. Creation of Pension Corpus Fund in TNEB to ensure pension benefits for all employees, pensioners and family pensioners of TNEB.
• 4. Implementation of 2:3 ratio among Assistant Engineers and Junior Engineers Grade.I for the entire Board.
• 5. Sanctioning of  one Technical Assistant in each distribution section of the Board as agreed in principle for better functioning of the Board.
• 6. Filling up of all the vacant Technical Assistant posts (1156 posts) for the better functioning of the board.
• 7.  Effective implementation and functioning of  MRT labs for testing of Energy meters to cut down revenue losses to the Board and to improve the image of the Board among the public 

                       Apart from the Honourable Minister for Electricity the function was also graced by the presence of our other distinguished Guests Thiru. V. BALACHANDRAN, IPS, ADGP/TNEB, Thiru A.S.JEEVARATHINAM, IAS, Employment Commissioner, Thiru S.KATHIRESAN, M.com., B.G.L., F.I.C.W.A., former Accounts Member/TNEB, and Thiru B.JAYARAMAN, M.E.,F.I.E., former member of the Tamilnadu Regulatory Commission. All of them praised the services of the Sangam not only to its members but also to the society, its rapport with the management and its approach for achieving its demands.

                      Another milestone in Sangam’s history was reached when Sangam’s web at www.tnebes.org was inaugurated by the Honourable Minister for Electricity. The Honourable Minister for Electricity also gave away the Sangam’s Kamadhenu Benevolent Fund of amount Rs 1, 10,000/- to three of the deceased engineers’ family.

                       Finally came the moment of the evening when the Honourable Minister for Electricity addressed the gathering acknowledging the praises showered and also the good governance being done by the Government of Tamil Nadu to the working society particularly to the Electricity Employees. Each and every demand placed before the Honourable Minister was well received and the Honourable Minister assured that necessary steps and action would be taken in the positive direction for implementation of our demands. Not only that the Honourable Minister made special mention and praised the Sangam for presenting demands benefiting the Board and the public. In memory of our Sangam the Honourable Minister and other guests were presented with a memorabilia.

                       The conference concluded with the vote of thanks given by the Organizing Secretary    Er. K.SAHAYARAJ, followed up with our national anthem.

                      The 5^th State Conference conducted by the second generation of office bearers was lauded for its success, not only by its members but also by the former veteran office bearers. It was another occasion on which Sangam's banner was held high witnessed by the third generation, which made every heart to cherish, that this Sangam which was built on the strong base work of the former veteran office bearers will travel miles to reach the pinnacle.
